Ayurveda Stress Management
Ayurveda Therapies for Stress Relief
Duration: 14 / 21 / 28 days
According to Ayurveda, stress on the body and mind is the primary reason for all problems – physical, mental, social, family, relationships, economical and spiritual problems in our life.
Without Shanti (Peace of Mind), we can’t enjoy all the good things in life. It doesn’t matter how healthy our body may be, or how many assets, friends, family, pleasures, name and fame we may possess. Do we really appreciate and enjoy what we have? If not, what’s point of trying to accumulate more? Yoga and Ayurveda taught at AyurYoga Eco-Ashram has one primary purpose: to help people appreciate and respect their own body-mind and everything that we already have in this life, instead of stressing about what we don’t have.
Body and Mind are not two different things – but they are reflections of each other. All physical health problems have their source in the mind. And all mental stress and psychological fears are reflected in our physical body. The Ayurvedic approach to stress management is focused on relieving the stress from the Nervous System, while improving the relaxation of the entire body.
In addition to Ayurvedic therapies relieving the stress from the brain and nerves, proper diet, yoga, pranayamas, meditation and life styles changes offer a holistic approach. The peaceful atmosphere and mother nature at our ashram not only nurture your body-mind, but also reset your physical bio-rhythms and mental equilibrium. The stress management therapy offered at our ashram has a multi-approach to work on various aspects of the body-mind through gradual stages:
Stage 1: To relieve stress from different organs in the Physical body at a deeper level.
Stage 2: To improve the Cardio-Respiratory System (Blood Circulation and Lung Capacity).
Stage 3: To improve the Nervous System and Nadis in the Pranic body.
Stage 4: To improve the Endocrine Glands / Hormonal Balance, which are closely connected to emotional balance in the mind.
Please note stress management therapy works well for people stressed out due to work and a hectic lifestyle. If you are suffering from anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress and other psychological issues, this Ayurveda stress management therapy may be helpful but not sufficient. Anxiety, depression and other psychological disorders are much more deeply seated in the mind. You may need the help of professionals in psychiatry, psycho-therapy, Reiki and other healers specialized in the sub-conscious mind. Lectures on Yoga Philosophy and Psychology that we teach at the ashram can be helpful in giving your right orientation to the mind and life.

Rasayana Rejuvenation Therapy
Ayurvedic Anti-Aging Therapy
Duration: 14 /21 /28 days of revitalizing the body-mind
Rasayana Rejuvenation is a traditional ayurvedic therapy for improving metabolism, vitality and immunity. The Pranic-Nadis and Marma points are stimulated and rejuvenated through specific ayurvedic treatments. Pranamaya Kosha is the vital body, that sustains the physical body through Prana. Nadis are channels through which Prana flows. Marma, or Chakra points, control the flow of Prana within the Pranamaya kosha, which is the bridge between the body and mind.
According to Ayurveda and Yoga, all diseases or dysfunctions of the human body are manifested when the flow of Prana is depleted from certain parts in the pranic body. It is a well known fact in Ayurveda that by removing the blocks in the pranic flow and strengthening of pranic channels, one can revitalize the diseased area.
Ayurveda Rasayana therapy protects the body against the ravages of ageing by enhancing its ability to fight pathogens. The herbs used in Rasayana treatments contain antioxidants that prevent damage caused by free radicals. Ayurvedic scriptures glorify Rasayana Rejuvenation therapy for reversal of the ageing process and to retain youthfulness and vitality.
Proper diet, yoga, pranayama, meditation, lifestyle changes and peaceful mother nature would maximize the benefits of all Ayurveda treatments received at AyurYoga Eco-Ashram.

Panchakarma Detox
Ayurveda Detoxification Therapy
Duration: 14 /21 /28 days of Intense Body-Mind Detox
Panchakarma, which literally means ‘five detox processes’ in Sanskrit, is a transformative ayurvedic therapy to remove toxins and to restore the natural constitution of body.
Every single day, our body accumulates various kinds of toxins from food, drinks, environment etc. This toxic accumulation, known as Ama in Ayurveda, disturbs the natural biochemistry and functioning of all organs within the body. Over the years, the toxins in the body blocks the flow of Prana (vital energy) which causes imbalance in the five elements and three Dosha constitution of our body, and mind too.
Five Panchakarma Treatments:
Nasya: Cleansing of five Sense Organs and Nervous System through nostrils.
Vamana: Cleansing of Digestive System, by medically induced vomiting.
Virechana: Cleansing of intestines in stomach, through medically induced purgation.
Basti: Cleansing of colon, enema by inducing ayurvedic herbal oils/decoctions.
Rakta Mochana: Cleansing of Blood, with the help of leeches.
Please note all five processes are not necessary for every individual. Based on your age, medical condition, doshic imbalance, our doctors will decide the appropriate treatments and duration of each. Please read our Ayurveda Treatments page for more details of these Panchakarma therapies.

Ayurveda Weight Management
Ayurveda Therapy for Weight Loss
Duration: 21 /28 days
According to Ayurveda, the tendency to put on more weight easily or not gaining enough weight depends on imbalance in five elements of body and constitution of three doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Although poor dietary choices and inactivity are said to be the top reasons for obesity, physical workout and diets can do very little to help if the underlying cause in dosha imbalances are not managed at the same time.
Weight Management in Ayurveda deals more with the way our digestive system processes the food and impact of liver in anabolic metabolism, which causes the accumulation of excessive Kapha and Ama (toxins from food and drinks). An imbalance in Kapha can result in weight gain or obesity, while a build-up of Ama is typical among those who are underweight.
The Weight Management Therapy at AyurYoga Eco-Ashram includes specific ayurvedic treatments to increase the element of Fire and decreasing anabolic metoblism. This program includes several powder massages and steam, along with ayurvedic oral medications to increase pitta (fire) which will improve the catabolic metabolism of the body.
In addition to Ayurveda treatments and medications, healthy diet and lifestyle in mother nature at our ashram, yoga, pranayamas, meditation etc. can be very helpful in maximizing the effect of this ayurvedic therapy for weight loss.
Please note we don’t give you any specialized diet during this therapy. You will be eating healthy and yummy food like all other guests in the ashram, twice a day and fruits once. We will not compel you to eat less or more – unlike many other weight management programs. We may suggest reducing the amount of rice or bread. Nevertheless, most of our diet consists of vegetables, curries and lentils, along with salads and a separate fruit meal. So, there is not much negative impacting nutrients (such as excessive fats, sugars, etc) in our diet, in case if you are wondering why we don’t restrict your diet. From our experience, starving is not a solution, instead we want you to eat healthy.
How you will benefit :
Expel toxins from the body.
Promotes healthy blood circulation.
Regulates hormones from Thyroid gland.
Lubricates and rejuvenates the tissues.
Improved Cario-Respiratory activity when combined with Yoga and Pranayams.
Improved Catabolic Metabolism.
Restores digestive and healthy metabolic processes.

Kerala Ayurveda Traditions
We are located one hour from Wayanad forest, which is a treasure trove of ayurvedic herbs and traditional vaidya families. All of our doctors and therapists come from either traditional ayurvedic vaidya families or trained under them. Our Ayurveda Nalakettu (traditional vastu structure) is designed with spacious five therapy rooms filled with fresh air and light, with views of Kabini river and hills around. We take only 10 clients, or max 15 rarely, to maintain the quality of treatments and no stress on our therapists or doctors.
Ayurvedic Oral Medication
Please note all Kerala Ayurvedic treatment packages offered at our ashram comes with ayurvedic Oral medication, in the form of fermented decoctions, pastes and some in tablet form. They can taste bitter or not so easy to swallow sometimes. We request you not to avoid this oral medication, as they are a vital part of the treatment and goes hand-in-hand with Ayurveda therapies.
All ayurvedic oral medication given here are purely herbal based and do not contain any metals or chemicals. Most of our ayurvedic medicines are sourced from smaller Ayurveda pharmacies run by the families of traditional Ayurveda vaidyas in Kerala. We collect most of the herbs used in our Ayurveda therapies from Wayanad forest, two hours away from our location. We also started growing certain ayurvedic medicinal plants/trees in our organic farm, hoping to make our own ayurvedic medicines eventually.
All Oral medication given as part of treatment are included in the total cost. You can also buy additional medication to take home.
Yoga, Pranayama and Meditation

Ayurveda therapies and medication would be highly effective only when you give sufficient rest to the body and mind. Ayurveda therapies can also make muscles very supple and nervous system very sensitive. So, we recommend all Ayurveda clients not to strain body with excessive exercise and to be slow and careful even in one yoga session a day. The Ayurveda doctor may suggest you to avoid certain asanas or yoga sessions on certain days of intensive therapies, which require complete bed rest for the process of healing.
We provide one-to-one coaching/consultation on yoga, meditation, pranayamas as part of the package. However, if you want a complete private yoga session of 60 minutes, there would be an additional charge of about $20/hour.

Ayurvedic treatments can be effective only when they are accompanied with proper diet, oral medication and relaxed lifestyle during the time of treatments. So, we request our clients not to use your time in the ashram as a resort-style vacation or tourist attraction. All people in our Ashram observe silence from 10 pm till 10 am, so that we can all enjoy the silence of the nature in the morning hours.
We may have to ask you to follow certain dietary restrictions. All our meals are tasty vegetarian meals (no eggs/fish/meat) prepared in Indian style with mild spices. During detox treatments, we have to give you only simple rice gruel or plain boiled vegetables on certain days. If you desire so, we are happy to provide food without dairy, gluten, spices, nuts, upon request.

Travel/Tours in and around mysore and kerala
We recommend all ayurveda clients to rest as much as possible to see the best results of ayurveda therapies. Other than nature walks in our countryside, we do not recommend Ayurveda clients to mix treatments with tourism, as the travel in India can be very tiring (40 kms distance to Mysore takes one hour drive!) and towns/cities are generally polluted with traffic and sounds. However, if you are keen to see the places nearby, we can organize the local tours once a week. Please inform the doctor – so that treatments on that day can be adjusted accordingly.

Ayurveda (the science of Life) is one of the ancient medical systems from India. Recently, Ayurveda is receiving accolades from medical practitioners from around the world for its in-depth understanding of how to heal from the root of illness, rather than working on prevention of symptoms. UN and WHO recognize Ayurveda an authentic medical system and many governments around the world, including USA, recognize Ayurveda as a complimentary therapy for legal and insurance purposes. Many people who tried Ayurveda Therapies from authentic places, can vouchsafe the efficacy of Ayurveda, beyond any theoretical doubts.
Necessity of Studying Ayurveda Education
More than massages and therapies, Ayurveda is a vast science of living a Life in tune with Mother Nature and to let the Nature take care of the body! Ayurveda can help us in deciding the right diet, life style changes, and psychological attitude towards our body, which are at the root of all medical problems.
Ayurveda education provided in Ayurveda colleges is meant for doctors who need to spend three to five long years to study, all the Sanskrit works and train to be professional doctors. Ayurveda resorts and hospitals in Kerala, Goa and other parts of India, where one can try Ayurveda courses / therapies, do not explain or teach the underlying knowledge behind this great science of life.
One can also learn about Ayurveda from media/online and can even buy the Ayurvedic medicines online or over the counter!
However, they don’t work as they promise as the quality of factory produced Ayurvedic medicines are doubtful. Without proper diagnosis, based on physical and mental constitution, and appropriate diet & lifestyle changes, oral medication may not show its effect!
So, AyurYoga Eco-Ashram has decided to develop short term ayurveda courses with training and certification for common people to apply ayurveda in their daily lifestyle. These ayurveda courses are developed and taught by professional Ayurveda doctors from traditional Ayurveda families in Kerala, where Ayurveda is not just a medical system but a lifestyle for both body and mind.
Who can come?
The ayurveda training course is mostly designed to help doctors, nurses, yoga teachers, massage therapists, or any alternative medical practitioners, who already have a basic understanding of how the human body works. Basic background in modern anatomy and understanding of common illnesses would make it easier to understand Ayurveda from a scientific perspective.
Can a normal person without any medical/health background come for this course? Of course, anybody who wants to learn about their own body and lead a healthy life is welcome.
Ayurveda Certification
One has to complete at least 8 hours a day and 100 hours in two weeks to get the certification for 100 Hours of ayurveda training. This Ayurveda course includes yoga classes and meditation sessions, as they are integral part of Ayurveda.
Please note this course is not an Ayurveda Massage course, though it does include how to give Ayurveda massages briefly. This certification is not accredited with any government nor any medical bodies around the world.

Reiki Healing Courses
Reiki Training / Reiki Healing Retreat in India
Reiki is an ancient Japanese technique to cleanse and to channelize Prana (vital energy) in our Pranayama Kosha. Nowadays, Reiki is also used in therapeutic way to heal certain physical or psychological ailments. There are also many other forms of healing techniques, known with different names, but having the same purpose, to heal our body-mind-spirit with the help Universal Prana.
The basic understanding about healing is that all of us have Prana flowing in our bodies through nadis and chakras, to keep our our physical body stay alive. When that Prana leaves our body, we are dead! When that same Prana is low in quantity/quality, we are low in energy or vice-versa. When this Prana doesn’t flow well in our Prana bodies, it deprives the life-force in that particular area of body and will cause physical and psychological ailments associated with that area of the body. So, what a healer does is to channelize the Universal Prana, which is in abundance, to that particular area, if treating for any medical condition.
Reiki is also widely used as an alternative for massages, to reduce the stress and to induce relaxation. We have seen a lot of cases of people suffering with anxiety, insomnia, fatigue are able to find Reiki very useful to deal with daily stress of our busy life in modern times. There are also claims of both healers and healed, about curing chronic illnesses by several sessions of Reiki, along with changes in diet and life style.
At AyurYoga Eco-Ashram we encourage our students to try Reiki, or any other form healing. If you don’t see the magic of Reiki in the first session, don’t give up. Try with another healer at a different time, as the experience can be magical or not depends on both healer and person receiving Reiki. If you are someone who experienced the magic of Reiki, you can’t help but sharing with others – as the more you give the more you get.
At AyurYoga Eco-Ashram, we also encourage the Yoga Teachers Trainees to learn how to give Reiki sessions, as it can be complimentary with teaching yoga and can be used within Yoga sessions. Unlike giving massage, which requires years of training, practice, effort, it is much easier to to learn and to give Reiki sessions.
Reiki Healing Sessions at AyurYoga Eco-Ashram
Currently we don’t have a resident Reiki Healer. We are searching for one! Hopefully we will find one and announce the dates here soon.

In the first level of Reiki, students will receive their initiation into Reiki, a cleansing of the pranic channels and chakras, and the knowledge of how to practice Reiki on their own body. Students also receive a manual with detailed information about the energy points in the body.
Level 2 (minimum four days)
In level two, you will learn how to give Reiki to others, learn how to give distance reiki, learn about the symbols of Reiki, and gain an expanded opening of the energy channels.
Level 3 (minimum six – seven days)
In the third level of Reiki, you will become a Reiki Master, which means that you can train other people to become Reiki healers. This is considered the teacher level of Reiki, and requires a deep commitment to the practice.

Food & Drinks
Delicious and Vegetarian
We serve Indian vegetarian food suitable for the sensitive western tummies. Other than nutritional value, we love to serve the tasty food with indian spices, to give a truly Indian experience. Most of our guests go back home with inspiration to eat healthy and vegetarian. We are happy to let you see our cooks in action and to learn how to cook on your own.
All meals come with either herbal hot drinks or fruit juices at noon.
Tea is served only once a day along with brunch.
Coffee is not available due to its acidic nature, which may not go well with ayurvedic medication.
Filtered drinking water is available at four different locations in the ashram. Please bring a water bottle to fill in anytime.
We do not serve meat, fish, eggs etc.
All food is prepared with filtered water in our clean and spacious kitchen, where we give utmost importance to hygiene. Some of the foods are grown in our own garden, without the use of any chemicals or pesticides. We are hoping to grow all food in our eco-farm in a near future, until then we buy the seasonally grown vegetables from local farmers. As a principle we try to avoid any food from super markets or packaged food.
We will be happy to accommodate guests with certain food allergies, or vegan, gluten-free diets etc. Both brunch and dinner include: salads, vegetables, lentils/beans, rice/wheat items, soups/hot drinks, and desserts occasionally. So there is enough variety to choose from.
All meals are served in Buffet-style and you can take as much as you want.
Food Schedule:
06:30 am: Hot Lemon Ginger / Herbal Drinks
09:00 am: Bruch (Salad, Vegetable, Lentils/beans, varieties of Rice, Indian Bread, and Tea)
01:30 pm: Fruits / Herbal Drink, Occasional Snacks.
07:00 pm: Dinner ( Salad, Lighter Indian foods like Dosa, Idly, Upma, Parothas with Vegetable curries, Lentils, etc. Soups and Desserts are served twice a week.
We have Fruit Lunch in the afternoon, as the morning Brunch is heavy and needs time to be digested. Furthermore, you need a lighter tummy for the evening Yoga Class. However, we don’t expect you to starve or feel lack of energy/nutrition with our diet/timings. If anybody requires, we will be happy to provide you extra food in the afternoons. Otherwise, you can also buy dry fruits and healthy snacks from our boutique.
We understand that Indian food is new to your stomach and we ensure that you are getting the right food. If anything doesn’t suit your tummy, we will provide porridge, or boiled vegetables etc. Students with low-blood pressure are suggested to bring extra iron/mineral supplements.
Accommodation
AyurYoga Eco-Ashram campus is designed as per the principles of Permaculture, to give an experience of living in harmony with Mother Nature. The accommodation in the ashram and amenities are simple but very comfortable enough for yogis, comparing to most of the hotels and homestays in India.
We have 35 rooms, with attached bathrooms inside, and balconies with beautiful views of the hills, agricultural fields, and the Kabini river valley. Ten of the rooms are wooden cottages while the other rooms are made of eco-friendly hollow bricks. The deluxe rooms are also made of eco-friendly bricks made of compressed laterite stone power mixed with earth. Eventually, we would like to build more guest rooms so to provide a private room for every student. Until then, guests have the option of either private or twin-share accommodation. If you want private accommodation, which is limited, it is recommended to book at least four/five months in advance.
ooden Cottages
The wooden cottages (private rooms), contain a single bed, a desk and chair, a wardrobe, a western style bathroom (toilet, hot water shower and sink), a pantry area with a second sink, and a balcony with a chair overlooking the river.
Deluxe Rooms
Made of laterite compressed bricks, the deluxe rooms are most spacious and comfy rooms in our ashram. Generally we give these rooms for ayurveda guests who are undergoing treatments. With better granite flooring and tiled bathrooms, these rooms are furnished a bit better than other rooms. Solar hot water and western toilets and showers are common to all rooms.
