沙吉难陀(1914-2002)
1、创始人简介
印度人,是全球“整体瑜伽”协会创始人,一代瑜伽大师、精神领袖和和平使者,曾获得人道主义慈善家奖、反破坏联盟慈善家奖、朱丽叶郝立兹信仰交流奖。
沙吉难陀大师SRI SWAMI SATCHIDANANDA ,敬爱的沙吉难陀大师是全球『整体瑜珈』Integral Yoga协会创始人,是一位人尊敬的瑜珈大师与精神领袖,大师亦被认为是和平使者。他也常被亲切的封为「乌思塔克大师」Woodstock Guru,因为他创造了有名的「乌思塔克节日」Woodstock Festival。一九六六年在纽约乌思塔克的一个大广场上聚集了六万多名美国的年青人,在这里聆听为期三日的热门音乐会,这是第一次举办场面如此浩大的音乐会,沙吉南陀大师应邀在开幕仪式时致词,他将瑜伽的好处介绍给所有年轻人,赢得了满堂喝采。大师常接到世界各地的邀请,演讲「通往和平之道」,他服务于「国际瑜珈教师协会」咨询委员会、欧洲国际瑜珈联盟、英国瑜珈轮和许许多多和平与信仰交流的组织。
『整体瑜珈』Integral Yoga在大师的教导下,混合了各种瑜珈方法,包括哈达瑜珈、呼吸练习和放松技巧、无私的服务、冥想静坐、祈祷,还有学习一个五千年的古老哲学,帮助个人寻找内心的和平与快乐。整体瑜珈的练习与规则是迪恩欧尼斯博士Dr.Dean Ornish救助心脏病患的主要依据,也是迈可勒纳博士Dr.Michael Lerner卓然有成的救助癌症公益节目的主要根据。大师有许多着作:哈达整体瑜珈Integral Yoga Hatha、认识你自己To Know Yourself、超越文字语言Beyond Words等。他也是两本传记的主角:和平使者 Apostle Of Peace和一位现代哲人的描述Portrait Of a Modern Sage等。
一九一四年沙吉难陀大师出生在印度南部,家境富裕,父亲是非常富有的地主,父母均信仰虔诚,在他小的时候,父母希望他将来能成为大企业家,但是当他的太太过逝后,他对人生的领悟使他决定投身宗教,脱离现实生活的一切束缚。大师结交了许多二十世纪的伟大哲人,包括拉曼纳玛哈西大师Sri Ramana Maharshi和奥罗宾多Aurobindo,,他接受了Ramakrishna教派的奇巴凡南达大师Sri Swami Chidbhavanandaji,在他出家前给他的启引,随后追随印度瑞希克斯 Reshikesh 的大师希瓦难陀Sri Swami Sivananda,不断的学习,并接受训练。一九四九年他被这位非常着名的喜马拉雅神圣生命协会 Divine Life Society, Himalayas伟大的精神大师任命为印度出家和尚。这么多年来大师在维丹他森林瑜珈大学Yoga Vedanta Forest University教学,并在喜马拉雅神圣生命协会在印度各地的分会以及斯里兰卡、远东地区指导许多宗教、瑜珈活动。
一九六六年大师应电影制片人康纳路克Conrad Rooks和艺术家彼得迈思Peter Mex的邀请,前往美国访问,由于大师世纪性的演讲引起了热烈反响,大师被热情的要求延长他的美国停留时间,他是第一位因为这个原因得到签证的,他被一而再的要求延长停留,最后终于成为了美国的公民。
大师是『整体瑜珈学院』Integral Yoga Institute的创办人,这个学院已有各个分院在印度、美国各地。在现在物质文明的世界里,社会混乱,人心浮燥,大师已成为欧、美、印度各地区道德与精神的领袖。大师有一个身体力行的证明,他建造了一个信仰合一的伟大工程,就是宇宙真理之光寺院Light On Truth Universal Shrine(LOTUS莲花),一九八六年在这世界独一无二的莲花寺院里,容纳了世界所有主要宗教的神坛,它就座落在美国维吉尼亚州的瑜伽村Yogaville,一个在大师领导下的精神中心,是依据瑜珈与宗教原理,能为全人类带来安祥、协和、大爱与和平。
大师举办过无数次瑜珈与宗教的研讨会、研习会、研修会、退隐避静活动Retreat等。大师几次私下觐见教宗保禄六世H.H.Pope Paul VI,教宗赞许大师对推动信仰交流的努力贡献。大师也曾觐见教宗保禄约翰二世H.H.Pope John Paul II。大师旅行世界各地去推动宗教协和、会见一些政府领袖、精神领袖和一些达官贵人,许多年来他会见过印度国父马哈马.甘地Mahatma Gandhi、达赖喇嘛the Dalai Lama、前联合国秘书长及缅甸政治家乌坦U Thant、印度总理印迪拉. 甘地 夫人 Indira Gandhi、诺贝尔和平奖得主泰瑞莎修女Mother Teresa、和平使者可利亚.斯考特. 金恩太太Mrs.Coretta, Scott King等。
大师曾经因服务公益而得到许多荣誉、奖章,这其中有Albert Schweitzer 人道主义慈善家奖Humanitarian Award、反破坏联盟慈善家奖 Anti-Defamation League Humanitarian Award和两个荣誉博士。朱丽叶.郝立兹信仰交流奖The Juliet Hollister Interfaith Award是一九九六年十月在联合国颁发给大师的。一九九八年他被赋予殊荣,担任朱丽叶.郝立兹信仰交流奖的荣誉主席。在这段其间,达赖喇嘛也获得了同样的奖章。大师为和平奉献一生,无论是个人的和平或全宇宙的和平,并致力于全人类的宗教协和,是一位人人敬爱的大师。
大师已于去年2002年8月19日 ,在印度与众生在一起为他们开释时,含笑往生,他已脱离躯体,而永远与我们同在。
大师着有:《Intergral Yoga Hatha》、《To Know Yourself》、《Beyond Words》等书;也是两本传记的主角:《Apostle of Peace》和《Portrait of a ModernSage》。

IYI位于南印度泰米尔纳德邦的工业城市哥印拜陀市中心。哥印拜陀的魅力来自于它保留了古老的传统,给了我们像以前一样体验印度的机会。从学校可以非常方便的去到附近的许多寺庙和观光景点。哥印拜陀人非常友善且城市安全干净。属亚热带气候,三至五月是夏季最热的月份,十一月至一月是最凉爽的季节。
在哥印拜陀的整体瑜伽学院(IYI)为所有人提供瑜伽和冥想课程。课程分三个级别进行:入门级,Hatha I和Hatha II。还有一些特殊的班级,如儿童,女士,长者,孕妇等,授课课语言为泰米尔语和英语。

INTERNATIONAL YOGA TEACHER CERTIFICATION – BEGINNER LEVEL
This course has been taught and refined by the senior instructors of Integral Yoga for over 30 years and wins worldwide respect and regard. Graduates will be certified to instruct a beginner’s level class in Hatha Yoga. More importantly, the program will enable participants to strengthen further their own spiritual growth and experience the peace of Yoga. Time invested in this program will reap benefits that last a lifetime.
Curriculum
1,Instructions in how to teach Yoga postures, deep relaxation, meditation and pranayama at the beginner’s level
2,Workshops to guide you step-by-step in your own Yogic sadhanas and daily practice of asanas and meditation
3,Lectures and practices of Raja Yoga – the science of the mind
4,Lectures on adjunct topics such as the Yogic diet, anatomy and physiology, principles of healing, common diseases, Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga, and Jnana Yoga
5,A complete pranayama and meditation course
6,Mentoring to give hands-on experience with teaching
7,An introduction to Yoga instruction for the elderly, children and pregnant women

Facilities and Board
The teacher training session will take place at the IYI in Coimbatore, or in a nearby Hillstations. Accommodations are twin-bedded rooms with private bathrooms. Wholesome vegetarian breakfast and lunch will be served.
Prerequisites
1,Six months recent practice of Hatha Yoga
2,A lifestyle that is essentially free of drugs, tobacco, alcohol and meat
3,Proficiency in English - both spoken and written
4,A sincere interest in Yogic studies and spiritual life
5,A desire to serve others, and to see more health and happiness in the world
The requirements for certification are as follows:
1,Full attendance during programs.
2,To conduct a standard beginner’s level Hatha Yoga class (‘qualifying exam’) to a few of your peers.
3,To satisfactorily complete a written mid-term and final examination on the lecture materials.
Introductory 10-Day course
Benefits of Hatha Yoga
By placing the body in the various postures, the muscles and the internal organs get a good massage. Yoga tones the entire muscle system, nervous system, endocrine glands, and all internal organs. It also promotes flexibility, vitality, and relaxation.
Circulation is improved and is directed toward the specific internal organs with which the posture is working. Deep breathing during the postures increases blood and lymph circulation, thus preventing pooling of the lymph fluid.
Beginner’s Course
To provide step-by-step instructions for the beginner student, the IYI offers an 10-day introductory course that starts every Monday unless otherwise posted. There is a choice of either morning (6:30AM) or evening (6:30PM) classes, and each class is one hour and fifteen minutes long.

Daily Yoga Classes
Beginner's classThe benefits of Yoga are best achieved when the asanas (postures) are practiced once a day. Developing “perfect postures” as taught by Sri Swami Satchidananda will lead to a healthful and blissful life.
To this end, the IYI has four daily classes, Hatha I for beginners, and Hatha II for those who have mastered the Hatha I asanas. Both classes are given Monday-Friday at 6:30AM and 6:30PM.
Fees for each of these walk-in continuation classes is Rs. 50. A discounted 20-class card costs Rs. 500 and may be used at any of the classes within a 2 months period.
On occasion there is a work program in exchange for classes.
Meditation
Energy is retained and directed inward during meditation, unlike exercise where energy is dispersed and projected outward. The body and mind are revitalized and relaxed during these silent periods, which in turn leads to peace and stability.
The IYI offers weekday half-hour meditation periods open to the public at 6:00AM and 8:00PM. Everyone is encouraged to partake of this sacred time. There is also a 5:00AM hour long meditation which can be joined with advance notice.
Yoga for Special Groups
Private and Semi-Private Classes
For those whose program does not match up with the schedule of public classes, private Yoga instruction is offered at the IYI. These one-hour sessions are arranged by appointment.
Instructors are available to travel and can offer a workshop or a ten-day course out of station for colleges or business offices.
Yoga for Elders and Women
Yoga for eldersIf you think you are too stiff or too old for Yoga, you may be in for a surprise! This course consists of adapted poses and practices which can be practiced by almost anyone who can walk and breathe. The classes are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for one hour at 5:00PM. Fees are Rs.25 per class.
Yoga for Children
The adult Yoga postures are adapted for a child’s body and a child’s level of awareness. Spiritual stories and concentration practices are included. Classes are one hour at 4:00PM every Sunday, and are for children ages 8 to 14. Cost is Rs. 25 per class.
Prenatal Yoga
This special session of Yoga poses and breathing practices is modified for the lady who is pregnant beyond the first trimester. Please call to confirm class.
Back Relief
A special session of Yoga-based movement is designed to assist a person suffering from back pain. This class is conducted by specially trained Yoga teachers to ensure that all movements are completely safe and carefully supervised. By appointment only.
Meditation Instruction
Once a month a 3 day course is offered to help beginning meditators become established in a daily meditation practice. This course will offer different types of meditation to best suit the individual needs. Cost is Rs. 250.
Registration Information
All programs and classes take place at the Integral Yoga Institute unless otherwise indicated. Registration for course classes and retreats is required in person, at least two days in advance of the function, at the Integral Yoga Institute, Coimbatore.
Ongoing Ashram Activities
Scripture Studies
Scripture StudiesEvery Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30-9:30PM a group of devotees gather at the IYI for reading and discussion of the Yoga scriptures. This informal session is open to any serious student of Yoga who would like to participate.
Saturday Meditation
A two-hour meditation takes place every Saturday evening beginning at 6:00PM. Everyone is welcome to participate and experience the sacredness of deep silence. There is no charge, no appointment is necessary,
and you are not required to stay for the entire two hours.
Chanting Sunday Satsang
On Sunday evenings from 6:00-7:30PM the IYI hosts a videotaped lecture of Sri Swami Satchidananda, followed by a brief talk by one of the devotees. The period ends with some wonderful kirtan (chanting) led by golden voices.
Counseling
For those who seek to live by spiritual values, guidance and counseling is offered by the senior members of the Integral Yoga Institute. For those facing severe emotional or family problems, counseling is available by professionals trained in Transactional Analysis. These services are only available by appointment. Please contact the Secretary or IYI staff for details.
Community Service
Community ServiceTree planting, feeding the poor, tutoring, temple-cleaning, and Yoga for the destitute are some of the social services offered through the Integral Yoga Institute. Volunteers are always sought to assist in these endeavors. Donations of useful used articles for the orphans of Families for Children is ongoing – a collection basket is in the IYI lobby.
